5 Amazing Tips for Including Your Fur Baby in Your Small Wedding | Dog in Wedding

I often get asked by my clients if they can include their dog in their small wedding they booked with us. Let me start by saying - Yes! Your four legged fur baby is just as much a member of your family as any human. But our dogs can be a wildcard in any wedding. So, here’s a few tips that you can keep in mind for including your pooch in the ceremony!

They Make Great Ring Retrievers or Flower Doggies

Everyone at some point has the thought of including their dog as a ring bearer! And it’s an awesome idea! My one word of caution here is that your dog will need to be trained to come directly to you, through a crowd of family and friends while he or she is in a new place. So, you need to make sure that your cute little pupper isn’t going to go running off with your ring! The same goes for flower doggies!

Groom Your Dog

Of course you’d give your dog a bath before bringing him or her to your wedding! It’s just something we can easily forget, unfortunately. We happen to get really used to dogs own smells, but other people… not so much!

Prepare For and Avoid Hazards

There’s always chocolate at weddings, and that can be a problem for your dogs! The cocoa in chocolate candy is toxic to your furry friend! Remember that alcohol is harmful to them too, and some flowers can even be toxic! So, make sure that when your dog is free to be fed by your guests and maybe even run around being loved on by your family, that you and they are aware of the potential hazards.

Prepare Your Dog for Your Wedding Day

It’s a really good idea to bring your dog to the site of the ceremony before the wedding day. This way, while your pooch may be around a bunch of new people, he or she will at least be able to have the scent of the area beforehand! This can help calm your dog down and prevent mishaps. And if you get the chance, rehearse his role with him!

Roll With The Changes

Lastly, and most importantly, dogs have a mind of their own! We can’t communicate with them as well as a human. So the day of your wedding, they might do something other than what you practiced! Don’t stress or fret! If your dog just wants to lay at your feet while you kiss the bride, that's okay! What matters is that your pooch was there for your special day!
