We do our best to make it as easy as possible to plan your micro wedding.  All you need is your wedding attire and your marriage license to get wed with Meander Gatherings.  It allows you to practically be a guest at your own wedding!  Our last blog was all about how to choose the menswear for your wedding and now we want to help you tackle the much more involved process of choosing your wedding dress!  We enlisted the help of the wedding dress specialists at Strut Bridal to help give you their top tips for wedding dress shopping.

For some background on them:

With wedding gowns to fit brides size 6 and up, Strut Bridal Salon is the Southwest’s best wedding dress store for size-inclusive wedding dress shopping. For your convenience, they have wedding gowns in stock to size 38 for custom orders or to purchase off the rack.  Their specialists are well-versed in dress shopping for the average bride and know how to make the experience a cherished memory!

We asked their specialists what brides should consider when shopping for wedding gowns and here are their top tips.

1. Don’t shop hungry!

The worst thing you can do is skip a meal before you go dress shopping.  Eat something before your appointment -- coffee alone won’t sustain you.  If you’re going to do back-to-back appointments at multiple bridal boutiques, don’t forget about lunch.  Budgeting time for lunch in between appointments will give you time to digest food as well as your shopping experience.  The Snickers commercials have it right… and no one wants a hangry bride.

2. Dress comfortably for your appointments

Make sure that your outfit is easy to change in and out of because you will be changing A LOT!  We know you want the cute “said yes to the dress” pictures too but you want to save as much time as possible between outfits and appointments.

3. Bring the right undergarments

Don’t forget to bring a strapless bra to your appointment.  It will help with all sorts of dress silhouettes.   Underwear is another thing you don’t want to forget.  Reputable boutiques won’t let you try on a dress without underwear.   No-show undies will help with dress try-ons but essentially just wear whatever you’re comfortable in.  Also, consider the fact that your stylist is probably going to see you in your underwear while helping you in and out of gowns.

4. Bring your hype-girls

Most boutiques limit the number of people who can join you at the appointment.  Those that make the list should be the people that lift you up and make you feel good about yourself!  If they aren’t supportive or paying for the dress, consider whether or not you really want them to join you.  It’s always a better idea to surround yourself with positive people during your shopping experience.

5. Keep an open mind

You may have done your research and think you know what you want to wear, but until you see yourself in that style, it’s not a done deal.  Any stylist worth their salt will be able to suggest flattering dress styles for you specifically!  Especially if you give them your likes and dislikes such as lace vs satin, length of the train, sleeves or strapless, etc.  There are a lot of different features on dresses and they know their inventory best!  Even if you have a specific style in mind, we recommend trying at least one or two styles that your stylist suggests just in case.

6. Trust your stylist

Not only should you trust them to try on a couple of their dress suggestions, but also trust them when it comes to sizing and ordering.  Conditions for ordering are constantly in flux right now with Covid.  They know what’s going on and when you need to make those decisions.

7. Let your opinions be heard

No matter how many people you bring with you, ultimately it’s your wedding dress.  Make sure your opinion is the loudest in the room!  It’s your pictures, your wedding, and your choice.

Weddings are stressful enough!  Wedding dress shopping shouldn’t be.  Hopefully, this helps ease the process for you!
